Team Joe Rocket Suzuki rider Josh Waters will take to Eastern Creek this weekend with a mathematical chance of snatching the Supersport title from current series leader Jamie Stauffer.
The young Victorian is aiming for consecutive Championship podium results having finished third in 2007 and carries great form into the final round having claimed victory at the penultimate Championship round in Tasmania last month.
"You never know what can happen in motorcycle racing because it's just so unpredictable by nature so no doubt I will be giving it everything I have got again this weekend," said Waters.
With the all new GSX-R600 underneath him this season, Waters spoke glowingly of Suzuki's newest Supersport machine.
"The new Suzuki GSX-R600 has given us instant results; not only have we been on the podium consistently but we have won races throughout the year so it's been a huge success," he said.
And Waters will feel far more comfortable this time round at the Eastern Creek circuit, having debuted the brand new GSX-R600 at the track at the Championship opening round back in March.
"Looking back it was a bold but successful move to run the new bike in the opening round, it really fast tracked the development of the new GSX-R600," said Waters.
"Going to Eastern Creek this time round having ridden the new bike for a season holds us in really good stead so I'm confident heading into the weekend."
Superbike riders Craig Coxhell and Robbie Bugden currently sit fifth and sixth respectively in the Championship standings and will be without team veteran and three time Australian Superbike Champion Shawn Giles for the final round.
Giles secured pole and was just two points shy of the Championship lead at Queensland Raceway in July when he suffered breaks to his left fibula and tibia resulting from a racing incident.
The Suzuki hero was well on his way to challenging for his fourth Australian Superbike title prior to the unfortunate set back.
Though not being able to compete again this season it wasn't through lack of effort and determination on Giles' part, as he has undergone intense physio in an effort to return to racing this year.
"Unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be in terms of getting back on board a Suzuki again in 2008 for racing," explained Giles.
"Initially I was aiming for a return at Phillip Island for Moto GP, and then was hoping to compete in the final round but things haven't panned out that way and I will look at getting myself right for next year and focussing on the 2009 Championship," said Giles.
Racing kicks off with practice and qualifying today at Eastern Creek.
