If there's one thing that Kawasaki Racing Team star Shannon Johnson cannot stand, it's watching the sport he lives and loves from the sidelines.
Johnson's 2006 YMF Loan Australian Superbike campaign stalled ahead of the previous Winton Raceway round, when a nasty cycling training accident ruled him out of racing for the weekend.
He emerged from the spill with a dislocated finger, impact trauma, swelling and bruising to his elbow and shoulder and painful road abrasions to most areas of his body.
He admits the time spent since has been frustrating, and is glad to be easing back into basic strength and cardiovascular training in preparation for the Grand Final at Eastern Creek, on November 19.

"I will be riding at Eastern Creek that is for sure, as for my speed and actual race fitness I am still unsure as to how quick I'll be as I haven't actually been on the bike since Phillip Island MotoGP," said Johnson.
"With such a lengthy layoff my fitness level has dropped a little more than I would have liked as I was advised to take it easy for a few weeks."
The physical forces exerted on Superbike riders is often underestimated, with superior strength in the forearms, shoulders and thighs in particular required to lap consistently and competitively.
"This braking force on my shoulder may be a little tough, and my start may suffer a little as my clutch hand was injured."
"But I guess if this sport was easy, everyone would be doing it, right?" quipped Johnson.
He has simplified his regular intensive routine to accommodate for the rehabilitation process and will be running, rowing and cross-training across the course of the next few weeks to ensure he is ready for the final round showdown.
Not surprisingly, cycling will be left off the list until after Eastern Creek.
"I am really using Eastern Creek as a building base for the new year, of course I'd love to reward the team and sponsors with a couple of podium finishes!"
"If things are going well and the opportunities present themselves, you can be sure I'll have a shot at it!"
Johnson rides alongside teammate Josh Waters in the factory Kawasaki team, and both riders will be in action at the round 7 clash, which kicks off with free practice on Friday November 17.
