Mark Aitchison Race Report

Hi everyone, I am pleased to report that I had a fantastic weekend of racing at round 6 of the Australian Supersport Championship held at Winton raceway.

The weekend greeted us with some unique sunny and warm weather, and the racing was shaping to be very close and tight fought. Saturday qualifying paved the way for my weekend as I grabbed pole position at a time of 1.24.1, which was half a second under the lap record. I was closely followed by the inform Jeremy Crowe and my team mate Jason O'halloran who were also just inside the lap record.

Race one proved to be a great opening race for the day. I made a good start and slotted into second place on lap 1. By the end of the opening lap I had managed to take the lead and from there I concentrated on putting down consistent fast laps. This worked well as by half race distance I had a lead of 3 seconds, where I maintained that lead for the rest of the race and won convincingly by 4.5 seconds. It felt great to grab another win, gain the lap record and be in a great position going into race 2.

With race one down I was feeling confident to take the double win. Again I got another great start into second place into turn 1 and turn 2, but by the time we entered into turn 3, I managed to make an aggressive pass stick on Jeremy Crowe and took the lead. From there my strategy didn't change from race 1, I was out in front and I focused on laying down fast lap times one after another. Even though we had to deal with slightly higher temperatures compared to the morning race I broke my own lap record and won the race finishing 5 seconds in front of team mate Jason. I took my first double win for my career and my best result for the year. I now hold the Supersport lap record at winton at a 1.24.3 and took a maximum 51 points from the round.

My main aim going into winton was to win, which is exactly what I did. With this result I have moved to 2nd in the championship and with one round remaining, where again I will be pushing hard for race wins. I would also like to say congratulations to Jamie Stauffer and Yamaha for wrapping up the YMF Loan Australian Supersport Championship. This is a great result for Yamaha and everyone involved in our operation.

We now head to Eastern Creek International raceway for the final round of our championship which is held on Nov 17-19.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank my team, Yamaha Australia, MD Racing, Biketek suspension, Iain Irving, and personal sponsors; Arai Helmets, Caprice Technologies, Gaerne boots, Joe Rocket leathers, Spy sunglasses, Hunter Valley Paint Ball and Course Logistics for your ongoing support.

Cheers
Atcho.
