Yamaha Racing Team focused on Winton win

The Yamaha Racing Team will look to convert its fine on-track form to a dual-class victory at this weekend's Winton Raceway round of the YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship.

The rural Victorian round 6 clash marks the penultimate meeting for the championship, and the factory outfit is determined to further stretch the points gap they have over the competition in both Superbike and Supersport fields.

Jamie Stauffer heads the proceedings in both classes, with the YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 machines proving unstoppable.

It is by no means a one-man effort at the team, with Dan Stauffer sitting comfortably in position 3 in the Superbike ranks and Mark Aitchison and Jason O'Halloran well within the top 5 in Supersport.

The teammates are determined to put a bad run of luck behind them and capitalise on the pace and handling of their Supersport machines.

Team Principal John Redding said the team was fully prepared for the round and had made good progress in last week's two-day test session.

"Jamies focus will shift towards his Superbike program this weekend," said Redding, "His domination of the Supersport class has placed him in the position where he can theoretically take the title this weekend, in fact he would have to be extremely unlucky not to!"

"Dan has come along really well, despite a slow start to the year, he and the team worked hard to develop the bike into a package that suits his riding style and that has really shown over the past couple of rounds".

"This years consistent podiums by all four riders across both classes are no fluke, they are the results of the hard work of our team at YRD".

"We are hoping to finalise our 2007 team and structure within the next few weeks and begin the testing and development of the recently released 2007 Yamaha R1."

"All necessary steps will be taken to ensure that we are prepared for the 2007 championships. We are committed to ensuring that we start the season on top of game," ended Redding.

Despite the championship being heavily weighted in his favour, Yamaha Racing Team pilot Jamie Stauffer will be anything but complacent when he takes to the track from this Friday October 22 as round 6 of the YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship kicks off.

Stauffer's sensational Symmons Plains win last month pushed the gap to second place back out to 18 points in the Superbike class, but he knows the importance of consistency in securing the title.

The team's recent test has Stauffer dialled in and focused on the task at hand, and he is confident of taking his tally to 4 round wins in the season.

"We had a fairly productive test at Winton this week, and by the end of the two days had the Superbike working quite well," said Stauffer.

"It's vital for me to keep up the solid results in this class to ensure we leave Winton with the lead before heading back to Eastern Creek for the decider."

"I'm looking forward to carrying over the good form we had at Phillip Island and the setup we have looks like it should do the trick."

In the break since the Tasmanian round, Dan Stauffer has set about establishing an all new fitness routine for himself, joining a new gym to aid him in endurance and recovery on the bike.

He feels as though he is now in a strong position to win races, highlighted by a top performance at the MotoGP support round, and said the bike is improving each time he takes to the track.

Placed a solid 3rd in the championship, he is aiming once again to join his brother on the podium and continue Yamaha's dominant Superbike run at Winton this weekend.

"I'm really enjoying myself on the bike at the moment, its working extremely well and I've got a great deal of motivation to go out and do really well at Winton," said Stauffer.

"I've changed up a few things in training which will hopefully increase my race fitness and help me to back up strongly after each session, all indications at our test suggest this will be the case."

"I'll keep applying the pressure to Russell Holland up front, it would be great to see Jamie win the championship but I would really like to climb up to second if at all possible."

Yamaha Racing Team Supersport

Consistency will be the name of the game when the Yamaha Racing Team's star Supersport trio take to the track this weekend for round 6 of the YMF Loan Australian Supersport Championship.

The factory R6 has dominated proceedings in the class in 2006, highlighted by Jamie Stauffer's comprehrensive 81 point lead, with Mark Aitchison and Jason O'Halloran providing strong backup in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Aitchison will go racing this weekend still feeling the effects of his spill at Tasmania 5 weeks ago, which saw him do significant injury to his foot.

The injury had taken longer than expected to heal, but Aitchison is determined to erase the pain from his mind as the team prepares in the opening practice sessions to be held on Friday.

The winner of the first race at the previous round is confident he can carry over this top form and once again come home with another strong result.

"Winton should be a strong round for myself personally, I've had some good results there in the past and know what it takes to do well," said Aitchison.

"In preparation for the round I've really being trying to overcome this injury and just give one hundred percent focus on the task at hand, it will no doubt be sore but I am not going to let that take away the opportunity for a race win."

Aitchison is 8 points behind second-placed Glenn Allerton, and 2 points ahead of teammate Jason O'Halloran.

O'Halloran was also a race winner at Tasmania, taking honours in the last race of the day.

He has committed himself to training extremely hard over the course of the last few weeks to be ready for Winton, and is certain to deliver the team another podium position aboard the YZF-R6.

"I've taken two race wins now, and I'm aiming for a round win at Winton," said O'Halloran.

"With a bit of luck we will be up at the pointy end, I'm feeling really good about the event and have worked myself to the limit in terms of training."

"It should be a good round for me, I can't wait to get out there and get started."
