Corser to race a Yamaha in 2007

Australian Troy Corser has signed with Yamaha to compete in the 2007 Superbike World Championship.

The two-time world champion will compete alongside Japan's Noriyuki Haga in the Yamaha Motor Italia squad, riding the latest incarnation of the four-cylinder YZF-R1.

"I am extremely happy to have the chance to work with Yamaha," said Corser. "The team has lots of experience and is very professional. Nori and I get along well and I think together we will be strong in development and bike set-up."

"I'm looking forward to riding the bike and I will be aiming to score my third world title on the R1."

Corser will replace fellow Australian Andrew Pitt at Yamaha Motor Italia, after his highly profitable two-year association with Suzuki came to an end at Magny-Cours last Sunday.

The 34-year-old claimed his second world title on a Suzuki in 2005, and finished fourth in this year's championship, won by countryman Troy Bayliss.

However, Corser's future with Suzuki has been in the balance since the Japanese marque recently announced that four-time world 250 GP champion Max Biaggi had joined them for season 2007.

Sensing that his days with were numbered, Corser then began secret negotiations with Yamaha, which will now be the fifth manufacturer that the Wollongong rider has competed for in a long and distinguished World Superbike career.
