After a mysterious ailment nobbled his Honda in race two, tireless veteran Peter Galvin has returned to the winner's circle in the Glen Cameron Aussie 125 finale at the 2006 GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Replicating his peerless performance from Friday's opening hitout, Galvin simply waved goodbye from the start, and already enjoyed a four-second lead after two laps, which he increased to 6.268 at the end of the five-lapper.
"It was good to get back on song after yesterday's breakdown," said Galvin. "I still don't know why my bike stopped, but there wasn't too much I could do about it."
"Despite that technical hitch, it's been a solid outing for me, and now I'm looking to trying to win my fifth Aussie title."
Galvin, 42, is currently running third in the national championship behind Tom Hatton and Brett Simmonds, who were both wildcards at Phillip Island this weekend.
While Galvin returned to business after yesterday's mechanical tumult, race two winner Cath Thompson's nadir came today when she was pitched off her RS125 on lap one.
Paul Campbell (RS125) and Peter Scott (RS125) then tried to maintain the pressure on Galvin ¨ just as their own defences were being stretched by Yamaha-backed teenagers Brad Gross and Jed Metcher.
Gross eventually moved into second on lap three, while Metcher took until the last lap to move past Scott into third.
Gross also claimed overall honours on 58pts, two clear of Metcher (56). Galvin (51pts) was awarded third on a countback from Scott.
Meanwhile, Honda riders completed the top eight in race three, with James Gleave just holding out Lee Grogan, Campbell and Jason Dunn at the chequered flag.
